Robert Burns Dinner
|
| Summary |
|
January 21st 2008 Monday, January 21, 2008 This traditional Scottish celebratory
dinner and entertainment payed tribute to the life, works and spirit
of the great Scottish poet, Robert Burns (1759-1796). It was a
night filled with wonderful Scottish foods prepared by the “1220”
chef and paired with some great wines, concluded with just a “wee
dram” of Scotch whisky. We had bagpipe music, and readings
from Robert Burns' works. And of course we couldn't leave out the
singing of his world famous "Auld Lang Syne". ~ Trivia ~ Burns was born in Scotland in 1759
to a poor tenant farmer, and spent his youth working his father's
farm. In spite of his poverty, Burns was extremely well-read. At 15,
Robert was the principal worker on the farm and this prompted him
to start writing in an attempt to find "some kind of counterpoise
for his circumstances." His first verse, My Handsome Nell, was
an ode to the other subjects that dominated his life, namely whiskey
and women. To learn more about the restaurant visit :
