Southwest Washington/Columbia Gorge Overview

The Columbia River Gorge area in southern Washington offers unique microclimates where summer temperatures are warm yet winds funneling down the Gorge provide ample variation in day and evening temperatures. This variation allows the grapes to develop concentrated fruit flavors and crispness yielding distinctive wines from 26 varieties including: Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Viognier, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot, Sangiovese, Nebbiollo, and Pinot Noir. Several famed vineyards are located in this region producing a growing number of award-winning wines.

Home to 15+ wineries, this area is known for its recreational activities and stunning scenic views of vineyards, mountains and rivers. Picnic facilities combined with hiking trails and water sports on the Columbia River offer several reasons to visit the wine region of Southwest Washington. Annual events include Red Wines and Chocolate in February, Spring Barrel Tasting in April, Memorial Day Open Houses in May, Gorge Wine Celebration in August, Harvest Wine Tour in September and Thanksgiving Weekend Open House in November.
