Columbia Cascades & North Central Washington

About Columbia Cascades & North Central Washington

Touring the beautiful valleys of the Columbia Cascade area provides a constant variation in scenery. This region is bordered on the west by the lush Cascade Mountains and spreads east through sagebrush covered hills and vineyards. The influence of the Cascade Mountains and the broad rivers and lakes makes the region unique among Washington State's winegrowing areas.

This region is currently home to 10+ wineries with many more due to open in the near future. The varieties being grown and bottled include Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, as well as lesser well-known varieties such as Roussanne. The wines range from deep reds to sweet late harvest and ice wines. Over 800 acres are currently planted in vineyards.

The Columbia Cascade area includes Grant County north of Interstate 90, Douglas, Chelan, and Okanogan counties. There is a wide range of climates and soils throughout the area. Many sites are frost free from April 1 through October 31, ample time to ripen even the most demanding grape varieties.

More information can be obtained through the website www.columbiacascadewines.com or email info@columbiacascadewines.com.

Wahluke Slope, Royal Slope, Cold Creek The high plateau that runs along the north side of the Columbia River from Vantage to Othello offers excellent growing conditions for many varietals and, with irrigation, produces ample crop yields. Particular growing sites in these areas have shown to produce distinctive varietal character in Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and other grape types.
