Greater Puget Sound
About the Greater Puget Sound Area The Puget Sound basin offers a temperate climate that rarely suffers from prolonged freezing weather in the winter and often enjoys a long and warm summer growing season. Since the accumulated heat units are less than required for many varietals, growers have adapted with early-ripening varieties Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and the lesser known Muller Thurgau, Madeline Angevine and Siegerebbe. Many wineries also source fruit for their wines from Eastern Washington where the climate is much warmer during the growing season. Annual events include; Red Wines & Chocolate Winery Loop Tour in February, Spring Barrel Tasting in May, Passport to Autumn, Holiday Open Houses.
